Pitra Paksha 2025

Pitra Paksha 2025

Dear Devotees,

Pitra Paksha is not only a sacred fortnight but also a unique opportunity for every family to honour and appease their ancestors. As we prepare for Pitra Paksha 2025 — beginning on September 8th and concluding with Amavasya on September 21st — Acharya Raj Mishra shares guidance on its importance, correct timing, and precise methods for performing Shraddh.

Why Is Shraddh So Important?

From the depths of our scriptures, including the Ramcharitmanas and Vedas, it is evident that Pitra Poojan is a pillar of Sanatan Dharma. Even Lord Rama, before any auspicious work, performed rituals in memory of his ancestors. Pitra Poojan removes obstacles, brings peace to the household, and ensures the blessings of your departed ones. True prosperity flows from satisfied ancestors.

Sacred Timings

For maximum spiritual benefit, Shraddh must be performed during the Kutap Kala — starting at precisely 11:36 AM and ending by 12:24 PM on the allotted day. This time window pleases forefathers the most and establishes the deepest connection to their blessings.

Traditional Ritual Items

Use copper or silver vessels (avoid iron at all costs). Sit on a woollen seat. Include sesame seeds, barley, cow's milk, white flowers, white sandalwood, and kusha grass. Orienting correctly is essential: face east for Dev Tarpan, north for Rishi Tarpan, and south for Pitru Tarpan.

Special Events for Pitra Paksha 2025

Special Pitra Shanti Yajnas and Pitra Dosh Nivaran Yagyas will be organised in Kashi, Haridwar, and Delhi. For Kumbh Rashi individuals, unique recitations of the 18,000 shlokas of the Bhagwat will be performed by expert Vedic Brahmins. Entry will be limited to ensure sanctity and personal attention for each participant.
