Emerald - Panna

Emerald (Panna) is the gemstone of Mercury (Budha) — the planet governing intellect, communication, business acumen, and analytical ability. A form of beryl coloured green by chromium and vanadium, the finest Emeralds come from Colombia, Zambia, and Brazil. In Vedic astrology, Emerald is prescribed for Gemini (Mithuna) and Virgo (Kanya) ascendants, those with a strong Mercury placement, or individuals working in communication, finance, writing, or technology. Panna activates the Anahata (Heart) and Vishuddhi (Throat) chakras, enhancing clarity of thought, persuasive communication, and commercial intelligence. It is also believed to improve memory and support the nervous system. Vedic tradition states that Emerald should be free of black inclusions (carbon spots), have good transparency, and ideally be above 3 carats for noticeable effect. Set in gold and worn on the little finger of the right hand on a Wednesday, after energising with Mercury Beej mantra (Om Braam Breem Braum Sah Budhaya Namah).
